Subgroups

Our intention is that themed ‘subgroups’ focusing on areas such as food, health, education, energy, housing, business and economics, culture and the arts and so on will emerge over time from interested persons within the local community.

Each subgroup will cover an area which is of strategic importance to the future of the area in terms of developing sustainability and local resilience. The subgroup structure gives us a way of thinking about things clearly and organising our work, allowing individuals to focus on the areas that are of particular interest or concern to them. We know there are some areas which will need subgroups that we haven’t yet been able to focus on.

The idea is that subgroups will have a membership with regular meetings that are open for new people to join, and will develop a contact list of interested people. From the group may come ideas for projects or events, or meetings may include a discussion of relevant topics.

Preferably one person from each group will also be part of the Transition Westcliff Core Group, whose role will be to act as inter-group co-ordinators.

Links to the currently proposed subgroups are listed below or in the menu box on the right of this page. Remember that Transition Westcliff is about YOU taking the initiative! So if you have an interest in any of these areas and want to get involved in kicking things off let us know. Similarly, if you want to start a new subgroup or have any other ideas once again please contact us or leave a comment below.

PARTNER PROJECTS

You may be part of a project that would like to link with TW or one of the subgroups, or want to ask for TW to support you in some way. We recognise that there are many people doing fantastic work alongside TW and are always keen to form partnerships with existing groups, practitioners and organisations. Please contact us to explore this. It would be very useful if you could provide us with a short summary (eg, a one page outline) of what you are doing, how it relates to the transition concept and what it is you would like from us.
