Busy and exciting two months – August and September

Your Transition Westcliff team talked, phoned, visited, presented, leafleted and postered stuff.

Past Events

We had a discussion about Transition Town concept at a South East Essex Dragons meeting which was very interesting and we made valuable contacts. An idea sprung up of organizing a big, open event with complimentary therapy stalls, green groups displays, film screenings and talks on environmental issues and activities for children and families. To offer your ideas and/or support contact Mark.

We visited the Open Day at Springfield Drive Allotments with a display about Transition Town Westcliff and a space for children to draw their favorite veg, fruit, garden or allotment. And believe me the purple carrot looked tasty:). We talked with people, visited the stand of the South East Essex Organic Gardeners, bought loads of veg and fruit on the auction and ate too much cake. See the pictures here.

Jay Scarlett from Scarlett Fireplaces at London Road gave an interesting talk on forest management and wood as a renewable fuel used for heating and cooking with minimal carbon emission – coming from the need to transport of the wood. He told us that there are ways around that though by sourcing wood from Belfairs Woods, his car fleet running on bio – diesel and looking forward to using cart and horse:)

We got an invitation from the Resident’s Association of Westborough. Thanks to the organizers for the slot where I could give a short talk on Transition Towns history. This Association is very busy and I could witness some interesting, heated debates on the issues of the ward. I stayed after and got into an interesting discussion on environmental issues and our locality so I’m looking forward to meeting the residents again and my notepad is ready for their ideas.

Graham got an invitation and went all the  way to California to spread the word of Transition which is catching on pretty well but the people over there need all the information and advise they can get to start their own Transition Towns. You can read here on his busy time over there.

In the meantime we were getting press inquiries from Essex Chronicle, GreenFutures magazine and BBC News on what we are about and we got an article in the Echo now. Hurray, we are looking forward to more press coverage as there are more people ringing or emailing us with inquiries how to get involved.   Check out the article in Echo here. And this is what GreenFutures has to say about Transition Towns.

If you have something you want to share with us feel free to get in contact. Share information, your ideas and feelings and share in the work.
