Biking boost for youngsters this Easter

biking

A special bike course this Easter will teach nine to 14-year-olds the vital skills needed for safe and confident cycling.

This level 2 Bikeability training at Chalkwell Park runs from 9am until 1pm on Monday and Tuesday 4th and 5th April, and participants must attend both sessions.

During the course they will learn how to control their bikes, how best to position themselves on the road and how to manoeuvre at junctions.

This will help build their confidence to make journeys on quiet roads, such as trips to school, shops or friends.

The training which costs £30 begins at 9am with everyone meeting at the car park in Chalkwell Park, Chalkwell Avenue, Westcliff, SS0 8NA.

Those taking part are advised to wear suitable clothing, bring a drink, and waterproofs if necessary.

Executive Councillor for Public Protection, Waste and Transport, Councillor Martin Terry said: “This is a really important course to introduce children and young people to the best ways to keep safe on their bikes, and enjoy cycling confidently.

“It is essential to teach these skills early on to make sure youngsters develop their crucial road awareness right from the beginning. Our Bikeability training is delivered by the Council’s expert tutors.”
