British Permaculture Convergence 2016

2 – 4 September 2016
Nell Bank, Ilkley, North Yorkshire

We’ve very excited to announce the British Permaculture Convergence will once again be taking place this autumn.

We are sure this year’s convergence will be a suitable follow-on from the International Permaculture Convergence. It will bring members old and new together to share, celebrate, and learn.

There are great workshop facilities, we will be catered for with excellent food, and enjoy a beautiful woodland setting. There is a selection dormitory accommodation plus plenty of camping space.

Expect a range of practical sessions, project case studies, networking opportunities, and lots more.

We hope to see you there Kamil. Book your place now for the best prices. We expect this event to sell out.

Join us at the Official Trawler Launch Party!

Join us at the Official Trawler Launch Party!

As a reader of our first issue of Trawler Paper we thought you’d be interested to know that it was a massive success. In fact it’s popularity has lead to us writing, photographing and designing Issue 2, and the good news is that it is being printed this month!

The Spring 2016 issue has even more pages and features an amazing range of articles as well as short stories, poetry, and beautiful photo essays

But That’s Not all…
To celebrate the second issue of Trawler we’re holding a Launch Party at the Leigh Community Centre on April 15th 2016 that you are invited to.

As well as giving away copies of the paper we’ll also have an amazing range of talks given by a host of local talent – a Trawler version of Ted Talks if you will!

Six local adventurers, entrepreneurs, raconteurs and personalities will be giving incredible seven minute talks on everything from wine tasting to building bamboo bicycles to wild swimming.

The Fat Pig Of Rioja by Sam Brown
Owner of Vino Vero, Sam will tell his tale of hunting out some of the best wines in Europe and finding the fabled “Fat Pig”. You’ll also be able to taste this wine on the night! (Complimentary glass of wine included in ticket price).

Happy Wild Swimming by Paige Ockendon
Paige will be premiering her new short film “Happy Wild Swimming” and discussing the benefits of winter swimming in the Estuary

White Gold by Alex Storey
Alex weaves a jaw-dropping story of how the cotton trade is in desperate need of reform, and what we can do to help.

My Handmade Bike by Sam Gable
Sam is a 3D designer who built a bike…out of bamboo…and now plans to ride it to Amsterdam.

Life Is About The Journey…Isn’t It?
A humorous and blunt take on how our world view can change just by bumping into someone on the beach.

All Mouth And Trousers by Ryan Philpott
Ryan started his acting career in the hallowed halls of Leigh Community Centre, and is currently working at the BBC, listen as he regales us with tales of his journey.

As well as these amazing talks, local musician Dave Crix will be playing a live set, and Ray Morgan and Jo Overfield will be regaling us with poems of whimsy and wonder.

Alongside our amazing speakers we have live music from local troubadour 56 Special as well as some impromptu poetry from Sundown Arts. It’s set to be a night of interesting and varied entertainment that will also raise some money for a charitable cause (£5 from every ticket goes to https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/emma-woof)

So please go to
and buy your tickets and we look forward to seeing you at the event.

Transition Town Totnes Reconomy Centre on Radio‏

OUR WAVELENGTH 2.1 : with Jay Tompt at REconomy – a business incubator for Totnes

Sarah and John were invited by Jay Tompt to Totnes’ REconomy Centre in February 2016 to see the place. We met people running really interested projects in Totnes and the surrounding areas. We discovered a place where we can set up a laptop for some quality time to work on our own projects as well as opportunities to network with others.

Lucinda Guy speaks to Sarah about community radio and describes how Soundart Radio can deliver a healthy and exciting mix of sounds into your home and work place.

“What If… Philosophy of Appreciation” Monday at 19:00 The Railway Hotel

Things are emerging from the What if… gatherings. Plans afoot re urban woodlands, plotters planning floral antics, and conversations happening about alternative education.

Who will you meet, and what will begin, at the next one…?

Using ideas, tools and techniques drawn from Appreciative Inquiry, Permaculture Design and other creative methods of group engagement, ‘What If?’ is a series of workshops, events and gatherings for anybody that wants to make positive change happen in their own life, their community or their world! Hosted by Graham Burnett (Spiralseed), Sherry Fuller and friends.

Join us the Railway for the next workshop and open space conversation. Sherry will be talking about the philosophical principles of Appreciative Inquiry; a way of ‘seeking that which gives life, in order to ignite the imagination of what could be’. This will be followed by the usual dialogue about the things that matter most to you.

Come along and be inspired!

Payment by donation. £5 suggested or what you can afford, would like to pay.

Hang around for a pint afterwards in Southend’s best pub and live music venue. 🙂
