eBarts and Community Land Trusts events in Chelmsford

From: Leonie Ramondt

Hi folks,

As people who are variously passionate about Chelmsford’s; creativity, community, social change, culture, sustainability and heritage, I’d like to invite you to two events that can help grow our local economy significantly.

The first is the ebarts social currency event. Imagine if we could mobilise even a fraction of the skills lost to us due to a depressed economy let alone enable unemployed people, pensioners, carers and students to supplement their income and /or start up their own enterprises.

the ebarts event at lunchtime on thurs the 23rd of October will give us the opportunity to explore whether this is possible. If this is of interest, please register via this link and/or please circulate the information to people who might be interested.

For those of us interested in community enterprise, the Community Land Trust event at the Ideas Hub is an opportunity to hear about an initiative that points towards how we might work together to make a real difference.

I was aware when the Marconi railway site was sold in 2012, that it was an amazing opportunity lost to community, because we didn’t have the active network to take advantage of it. Clearly the time wasn’t right. However, the linked 3 minute video shows an initiative in Totness that shows how people are working together to enhance their local economy http://atmostotnes.org/the-project/

Again, if you would like to attend, it would help our planning if you could register please and also please invite anyone who you think might be interested..

Many thanks,

Essex Savers looking for more people!

8 May 2014: Essex Savers looking for more people

Essex Savers continues to open in new areas so we are accessible to more people who need a “face to face” service. It is also easier to access our services via the website which has all the forms needed to apply for membership and loans with up to date information on all we offer and where you can access our services.

In expanding into more areas, we do need local volunteers especially for Maldon, Braintree, Colchester. In existing areas, we need more for Brentwood, Southend and Harwich. We also need people with a professional background to work as volunteers for a few hours each week at the service points we are setting up in Barclays Bank branches around the county.

SiT comment: local people saving their money in a local organization which then loans that money at a reasonable rate to local people and businesses. When the return covers the cost of running the credit union the members get back a dividend which keeps the local money circulating in the local economy. Can I use local to emphasize the benefit for the locality more?:)
