Green Open Day at the Centre for Disability Studies on 24th September

Essex Community Energy Fortnight

Learn how to make your home cosier and save £’s on energy

Visit the Green Open Day at the Centre for Disability Studies, 34 Rocheway, Rochford SS4 1DQ on 24th September from 10am to 2pm for a guided tour of their eco-building and learn how to reduce energy use at home.

Why not pop along and see how green technologies work in real life? And if you needed an extra incentive to participate, there will be tea, cakes and prizes!

The Centre for Disability Studies is an exemplar of green building and accessible design. It has been built using Passivhaus design principles, a rigorous standard for energy efficiency in a building. Electricity is generated by solar panels and design has focused on maximising daylighting and passive solar gain. Overall, the building achieves an exceptionally high standard of thermal performance, meaning low running costs for their charity and excellent internal comfort for building users over many years.

Booking is preferred, but not essential. Please register your interest in this event by emailing luciana.almeida.

If you can’t make the event, you can still learn how to save energy at home by joining a FREE HOME ENERGY SAVING webinar, on the 18th September at 1pm. Register your interest here and you will be sent details on how to login on the day.

The Centre’s website is www.disabilityessex.org. The Community Energy Fortnight (13th to 28th September) is a national campaign to celebrate how communities across the UK are generating, owning and saving energy.

Southend Energy – are you ready to join the local energy revolution?!

The first meeting to test the idea of Southend Energy took place last Thursday 27/02/2014 in the Olde Trout

Southend Energy so far is a spark in the eye of a group of people who are having a vision for an Energy Autonomous Southend-on-Sea. A Southend-on-Sea where energy conservation schemes and renewable energy generation projects have resulted in all Southend’s residents’, buildings’ and  businesses’ energy needs being meet locally which increase local resilience against impacts of volatile global energy markets and which support a thriving economy.

Get on board and get in touch. Next networking meeting at Forum library after the East of England Low Carbon conference at 18:00.

Initially the group hopes to organise meetings to learn about energy conservation and generation and start projects locally.

Join the Facebook group, leave comments below or email Southend in Transition.

The CREST: Schools and Community Energy Conference 5th March 2014

The CREST: Schools and Community Energy Conference is Southend on Sea Borough Council’s fourth annual low-carbon and sustainability conference, which will take place throughout the afternoon of Wednesday 5th March 2014 at the Forum, Southend on Sea
About:
The first session of the Conference focuses upon schools as an example of how a successful energy efficiency programme and an uptake in renewable technologies not only results in cost savings and establishing new revenue streams but can improve the educational/learning environment and help Local Authorities to deliver key objectives around fuel poverty, health, education, transport and community cohesion.
The second session addresses the increasingly important role that Local Authorities have to play in the financing of the local low-carbon economy. Adopting the right inward investment strategy and financial approach can create jobs, reduce costs across the public and private sector, grow the local economy and be key in supporting the regeneration of an area.
Speakers:
A full agenda will be published at the beginning of February, but confirmed speakers include:
RE:FIT
Ashden
Pure Leapfrog
10:10
Marksman Consulting
Cambridgeshire County Council
West Sussex County Council
You can register your interest in attending the conference at www.crest.eventbrite.com
