4/12 Trust Links Xmas Fayre

We joined in the celebrations with our little stall full of goodies prepared by members. Lots of chats about community and environment.

We could have 50 litres of mulled juice as it was so popular, cakes and cookies did well, books and seeds are going to help people grow their own and we made some contacts at a local care home which runs its own allotment with 100 year old gardeners and some people involved with the Haven’s Hospice therapeutic gardening course. Jerusalem artichoke found some fans as we popularise this root veg locally 😀

It was fantastic to see Trust Links network develop and so many residents.for example:

Fiona run one of the Eco Days session with Sam from Eco Essex helping people to think how to have a sustainable Xmas

See you soon on the plot or Repair Cafe

Eco Fair at Leigh Road Baptist Church

It was a pleasure to take part in the Eco Fair at the Leigh Baptist Church. With plenty of stalls and activities for children and adults everyone we have met was impressed with the organisation and the variety of ideas they could pick up and products explored.

The kids enjoyed the scavenger hunt and the activity room with lots of eco crafts.

We spoke with dozens of local residents about Transition Towns, our community allotment, the repair cafe, sewing workshops and other projects locally they could get involved with.

For a donation we offered books to raise awareness, cakes and home made playdough – the proceeds are going to our running costs. Tilly prepared handouts about foraging and there was herbal tea to try to help people see the amazing abundance and value of nature. Fiona prepared the vision boards and visitors were asked questions to stimulate imagination which is so necessary at the moment to move us out of the denial and hopelessness towards positive action to build a sustainable future. “Who could you be…” a baker, an artist, a builder. “What if…” we developed a sustainable food system for Southend in the next 10 years time? How would it look like.

We signed up lots of you to our newsletter and hopefully we will see you at our Taster Days and other local events.

Again big thanks to Leigh Road Baptist Church and Eco Essex for getting everyone together.

Why are we doing this?

2017 looks set to be a historically turbulent, crisis ridden year. It would be easy to give up on any attempt at changing the world for the better.

Fortunately, there are a number of groups and individuals in Southend and the surrounding areas who see things differently. They’re working at grassroots level on projects to bring about change.

We’re holding the Southend Radical Fair to let people there are positive alternatives to the prevailing climate of despair – this is your chance to see what’s on offer. There will be stalls by active local groups, meetings, workshops and coaching sessions to inform you and help you to get involved in changing the world.

The Real Democracy Movement will be presenting their new book Democracy Unchained. Come along to hear about the threats to democracy and the multiple ways it can be protected and developed further. The evolution continues.

We will have around 19 stalls with local, regional and national organisations. If you did not make the list get in touch with us to drop your leaflets of.

Come along, get involved and start to make a difference. Please share.

We have the stalls and programme firmed up and it looks like an eclectic mix ready to draw your attention and give you hope and plenty to get involved with in the coming year.

Looking forward to meeting you!
