The M&S Energy Community Energy Fund is back for 2016‏

m n s energy

The M&S Energy Community Energy Fund is back for 2016!

We’re pleased to announce that the M&S Energy Community Energy Fund is returning with £350,000 to distribute to community groups across the UK this summer.

It’s part of the continued commitment from M&S Energy to enable more communities in the UK to generate renewable energy and become environmentally and financially sustainable.

Over 136 projects entered in the competition last year, generating over 52,000 votes in a close-run campaign, resulting in 21 project winners from around Great Britain benefiting from our fund.

Ed Davey, the former Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, joined River Cottage founder Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and a panel of experts to decide on the 5 additional judges’ discretion prizes.

There’s £12,500 up for grabs in each M&S region across Great Britain to use towards the installation of a renewable technology and generate energy for your community building.

Whether you’re a community energy group, a sports club or simply an organisation that wants to have a positive impact on the environment, we want to hear from you.

What do I need to do to apply?
Applications open online next week, and you have until 31st May 2016 to tell us all about your project to be in with a chance to win funding.
A tip to support your application preparation:

  1. Make sure Planning Permission or Permitted Development Rights has been approved prior to application
  2. You will need to submit cost quotes from your installer so have this document ready to upload

Join us on May 19th – The Power of Conflict for Building Community‏

The Power of Conflict

for Building Connection and Community

Join us for this free online TeleSeminar with three practitioners from the Fellowship for Intentional Communities. Thursday, May 19th.

Conflict is everywhere!

Register!

Thursday, May 19th at 11 am PDT / 2 pm EDT.

If we cannot work with conflict, then we probably cannot create a resilient town, city, or neighborhood. Conflict is one of the most essential sustainability skills, and will serve us in every walk of life.

When you’re in conflict, do you want to fight, flee, or freeze? Do you ever wish there could be a better way? Something that uses conflict to strengthen relationships instead of damaging them? But how? What can we do to reduce the chances of conflict arising in the first place? And what does having conflict in a healthy and transformative way really look like?

Join three practitioners from the Fellowship for Intentional Community, Gaia Education, and the Rocky Mountain Institute as they relay tips, tools and resources on how to reduce painful conflict and instead use conflict creatively to build connection and community.

If you have not done so yet – Register here for this free event and learn how to use conflict — maybe even welcome it, for its power to bring to the surface what’s really at stake, and to unite people toward a common goal.

Tree-mendous gift from OVO energy helps to green local park | Southend-on-Sea Borough Council

Communities__Neighbourhoods_and_the_Environment

Children from Thorpe Greenways School have helped plant 250 trees in Southchurch Park East as the Council seeks to make the borough cleaner and greener.

The trees have been donated to the Council by OVO, the Council’s partner in its own energy initiative, Southend Energy.

The tree planting comes as the Council prepares to launch ‘Make Southend Sparkle’, a pioneering initiative to bring together community groups, businesses and the council to make our neighbourhoods cleaner and greener.

Mary Betson, Executive Cllr for Enterprise, Tourism and Economic Development, said: “I am delighted that we were able to use our links with OVO through Southend Energy – which has already attracted over 3,000 local customers in less than a year – to introduce further greenery into a local park.

“We are very grateful to them for donating these trees and I look forward to more of them being planted across the Borough.”

Reg Platt, Senior Manager from OVO said: “We pride ourselves on our green credentials, providing 33 per cent renewable energy as standard in both OVO’s and Southend Energy’s tariffs, along with our competitively priced Greener plans which are 100 per cent renewable.

“That is why we were delighted to support the Council by donating these trees as it prepares to launch its Make Southend Sparkle campaign.”

Since its launch in May last year, OVO has saved over 3,000 customers an average of £287 on their energy bills whilst increasing the percentage of renewable energy these households use.

Introduction to Permaculture one day workshop, 15th November 2014, Southend on Sea

Led by: Graham Burnet (Dip Perm Des)

Details; Held at the newly set up Epicquest alternative school in Southend, this one day workshop can either be considered as a ‘stand alone’ introduction to Permaculture ethics, principles and design, or else can be a lead-in to the more in depth full 72 hour Permaculture Design Course. The day will be led by experienced permaculture teacher Graham Burnett (author and illustrator of ‘Permaculture- a Beginners Guide’ and ‘The Vegan Book of Permaculture’, former Trustee of the Permaculture Association (Britain) and holder of the Diploma in Permaculture Design). Epicquest is an exciting new educational project being set up by the One Love Foundation in order to provide alternative learning opportunities for children and adults in the Southend on Sea area. One of the outcomes of today’s workshop will be to generate design ideas for the future development of the space and its grounds.

MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER.

We (The One Love Foundation UK cic) Have been full on pushing forward with this vision of better youth development and healthier living, youth support for the needed and worst effected areas in society, community spirit , collective community involvement, resourceful living environment regeneration, earth and people care, building and retaining relationships through music, human values and morals regarding the future, and the bigger more ambitious EPIC QUEST ALTERNATIVE school and youth/community center.
We strongly believe that knowledge should be free and accessible to all who want to obtain it, we want the chance also to show that if delivered in the right way in a nice, safe and warm learning environment through understanding, patience, mutual respect and personal close quarter interactive teaching methods anyone can thrive and excel in any or all subjects given to them.
Part of our philosophy is that love and laughter should be a main ingredient in everyone’s life’s daily,
We will be using them a lot at the school.

So a brief update in the 4 months passed we have secured a premises in Wallis avenue Southend on sea Essex, been granted planning and the licences needed to operate a fully functioning education facility, we’ve had one full lesson with 20 children and are now in the process of finalizing the plans, aims, objectives and everything else that is needed to make this positive and lovely venture happen and flourish for the good of the all.

Positive actions and steady dedication towards community partnerships, youth support of all kinds and good honest education that is free, assessable and available is our core foundation and is what we feel and believe is needed for all children to grow into caring and loving adults, and for society as a whole a nicer place to live.

Love, blessings and support is what we need to prosper and spread this effort to the masses, should they so want it.

All funds, proceeds, profits raised from all events goes directly to this cause. without the generosity of you it would take a long time to make this work.

THANK YOU ALL. ONE LOVE AND SWEET REGGAE FEELINGS

Southend-on-Sea in Transition Hi folks, I’ve spent some time today talking to…

Graham Burnett mentioned you in a post in Southend-on-Sea in Transition

Graham Burnett
Graham Burnett 19 August 21:43

Hi folks, I’ve spent some time today talking to Chay and Jules EpicQuest Southend about the EpicQuest education project see http://epicquest.co.uk/ They have invited me to run some Permaculture Design Skills workshops to help think about ideas for their new centre in Wallis Ave, Southend on Sea.

I’m proposing running 2 (maybe more) weekend workshops in September and October which will provide a basic grounding in Permaculture Ethics, Principles and Design Skills, facilitated by an experienced permaculture designer (me!), with a focus on creating ’emergent’ design ideas for the project by pooling our collective skills, creativity and expertise to come up with realistic and workable design proposals.

Focus will be on generating ideas for the building, as well as garden and growing areas and ‘wild’ spaces around the grounds.

Participation will be donation to help cover my time and facilitation (suggest £10 – £30 quid for each 2 days workshop depending on what you can afford/think reasonable).

No previous knowledge of Permaculture is necessary, this would however be an excellent opportunity for those who have previously done a Permaculture Course (eg, a Permaculture Introductory Course or full 72 Hour Permaculture Design Course, or working towards their Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design) to revise and brush up their design skills, or produce work for their design portfolio.

Who would be interested in participating?

Please PM me or email me via the contact page on my web site to register interest http://spiralseed.co.uk/contact/

Green Open Day at the Centre for Disability Studies on 24th September

Essex Community Energy Fortnight

Learn how to make your home cosier and save £’s on energy

Visit the Green Open Day at the Centre for Disability Studies, 34 Rocheway, Rochford SS4 1DQ on 24th September from 10am to 2pm for a guided tour of their eco-building and learn how to reduce energy use at home.

Why not pop along and see how green technologies work in real life? And if you needed an extra incentive to participate, there will be tea, cakes and prizes!
