Fruit Picking Study Trip
This Saturday, 21 July
10.00am to 5.00pm
at The Plotlands, Langdon Hills and
Company Drinks Pavilion, Barking

A day study trip to The Haven Plotlands Museum in Langdon Hills, which looks into the history of self-sufficiency of east London communities moving out to Essex, and the means we have today to build infrastructures that make use of local resources for immediate local benefit.

The day will be a mix of readings, talks, tours and fruit picking, where we will be learning about alternative economics, Essex as a place of radical culture and the idea behind ‘Taking Back the Economy’.

Guest speakers include Gillian Darley, Verity-Jane Keefe and Ken Worpole. A free bus will travel between London, Barking and the Plotlands.

Schedule

10.00am pick up from Museum of Childhood,
Cambridge Heath Rd, London E2 9PA (meet at 9.45)
10.45am pick up from Company Drinks Barking Pavilion,
Barking Park IG11 8TA (meet at 10.30)
12.00pm arrive at The Plotlands.
12.00pm nature reserve walk and blackberry picking
1.00pm picnic together and short talks – please bring your own food!
2.00pm tour of The Haven
2.30pm leave The Plotlands
3.30pm arrive at Company Drinks Barking Pavilion
3.45pm talk, discussion and drinks led by Gillian Darley, Verity-Jane Keefe and Ken Worpole
5.00pm end

The trip is co-organised by the Centre of Plausible Economies/Company Drinks together with Focal Point Gallery through their Radical ESSEX programme. It is funded through Arts Council England’s Ambition for Excellence programme New Geographies, led by ECVAN.
