Bodies needed for Random Acts of Gardening

Bournes Green area, Sunday 28 February, 11:00 – 13:00

We’ll be offering to plant wildflowers and/or a spot of garden tidying, pruning or weeding. Green fingers highly desirable.

Public Health and partners are working in the Bournes Green area on a community project called “C2 Connecting Communities”. The basic premise is to encourage residents to work side-by-side with service provides to improve things for people and place: happier, healthier people and cleaner, greener spaces. Projects should be resident led – ie people come up with suggestions about what they’d like to improve, and how they’d like to achieve this.

However, for all sorts of reasons, the project hasn’t really taken off. Gardening and food growing, however, have been mooted as things that local people would like to do (and we know this is a great way to build a sense of community). So, Project Coordinator Gloria Millis suggested we lead by example with this polite take on guerrilla gardening. If people take us up on our offer (we’re simply going to knock on doors – we’ll have our ID with us) it’s a chance for us to tell them about a forthcoming Easter event (which is part of the C2 programme) and also to let them know about the SiT allotment.

If anyone’s available, and is happy to volunteer their time, please contact SherryFuller@Southend.gov.uk or call me on 01702 534649.
