Nurturing Health

is an initiative of Milton Community Partnership intended to improve the quality of life for residents of Milton Ward and the Southend on Sea area.

We believe that high quality, fresh, locally grown food is fundamental to a healthy life and a healthy world, and so we are supporting local people to grow their own vegetables and fruit using their gardens, allotments or even patios, balconies and window sills. Visit www.topofthecrops.org.uk

To help out at events or contribute ideas please get in touch Milton Community Partnership tel. 01702 213264 miltoncommunity@hotmail.com

Transition Together

The Transition Together project forms small, social groups of friends, neighbours and colleagues and then supports them in taking a number of effective, practical, money-saving and carbon-reducing steps.

One of the participants commented: “Everyone helps and inspires one another.  As one of the team said in our first meeting, ‘we can grow and develop one another’s ideas to enrich our lives’ – and we do.

Taking part in this local programme could mean that you:

  • save money this year

  • get to know your neighbours better

  • save on energy and water in the home

  • cut your bills and reduce waste

Southend in Transition is currently looking for:

– partner organizations and local agencies who would like to work with us on the editing of the workbooks to make them relevant locally – a great way to inform and involve local residents in your activities and programmes

– individuals interested in taking part – to start piloting the project in your street, ward or organisation – we will offer the handbook, support in starting and managing the group

Visit here (Totnes) and  here (Taunton) to read up success stories.

Visit our local website Transition Together in Southend to get involved or if you want to be kept up to date.

Transition Saturday Potluck

September’s Transition Drinks were well attended and we are now taking up more and more space in Cricketers Inn. Thinking of folks who can’t attend evening meet ups and for whom the pub is not their cup of tea:) we discussed having monthly get togethers over a shared meal. Matt from Growing Together agreed it was a good idea and I will be contacting him again to sort out details. Maybe every second Saturday of the month at Growing Together starting November the 12th from 11:00? Would you be interested to come around. I will confirm the date in the Nov Newsletter.

Mapping Southend Food Growers and Producers

Let us know of any events or projects to add to the map.

Help us spread the word publicity group

We are trying to get as many posters and leaflets out there as possible so people can learn about Transition related events and activities locally. Still we get comments that people didn’t know about our existence and if they did they would join in much earlier ro come to an event.

We already have a few people who print posters for us and put them up but to expand our reach I ask for your help: can you print the occasional poster and put it up in your community centre, church, work place, shop window or home window? Email me with the subject POSTER, I will save your email to a separate group and I will email a poster from us or one of our partners. No obligation really, you can do it at the frequency which suits you and where you want it.
