Mapping Southend Food Growers and Producers

This has been on my mind for a while now. Through my and my colleagues work on Southend in Transition and our involvement with other organisations we were lucky to find out about many local individuals, projects, businesses and institutions interested or engaged in growing and producing food locally.

Some community initiative around the UK have prepared Local Food Guides and Directories or looked how to consolidate and help grow their local food networks through Local Food Hubs. With many people asking us what is happening locally, where they can buy produce and products I thought I will make a start on gathering this information in one place and display it in different formats for people to use, contribute and publicise.

1) Local organic gardeners have recently prepared a great list of local and regional suppliers here.

2) Map Mind of a possible Local Food Network project for Southend (version 0.1 work in progress)

3) Google Map – volunteer needed to create one

4) Southend food growers and producers printable booklet – work in progress
