Southend-on-Sea in Transition

You must be asking yourself what happened to Transition Westcliff? The people involved are still there and lovely Westcliff isn’t going anywhere.

We’ve listened to feedback from many interested people and we decided to give them a platform to work on Transition for those outside of Westcliff-on-Sea in the wider Borough of Southend-on-Sea.

This is how other Transition Cities organize themselves. They have a general network like Transition Bristol where they meet, make events to raise awareness and start projects. Among TB are people who wanted to work on a particular neighbourhood like Westbury on Tyme and they do their own events and projects.

Vision

We see Southend-on-Sea in Transition as a network of locals interested in transitioning their lives and their communities to a low-energy, happy future taking into account the challenges of climate change, peak oil and ideology of economical growth.

Within Southend-on-Sea in Transition we’ll support neighbourhood groups, wards and streets to start their own Transition projects and in the future you might see Leigh-on-Sea in Transition, St. Lukes Ward in Transition or whatever the scope people will want to work on. That’s up to you.

Exactly – that’s up to you. What happens through Southend-on-Sea in Transition is an effect of where its supporters live, the time they’ve got and of their own passions. At the moment most of us do live in Westcliff so we will probably centre our projects around there. As such if you find we could do a bit more or do this and that over there come to a meeting and offer some ideas and time to make them real. Enjoy the support, good company and knowing that you taking charge of your live and influencing your community in one of the most exciting times in history.

Practicalities

Slowly but surely we will be changing materials and the website to replace the name Transition Westcliff with Southend-on-Sea in Transition. Keep visiting the website you usually do as we will use it for the new platform.

The same will happen with newsletter – it will keep its format, focus and content just the names will change. If you are a dedicated Transition Westcliff fan with its poster on the wall and the idea of getting newsletters from Southend-on-Sea in Transition sends shivers down your spine write to us and we’ll see what we can do.

Your opinion counts

We want to know what people think about this change, what are the appreciations and the concerns, what ideas start brewing now that you know it is happening?
