Face to face engagement key
Sauce has begun working with Cory Environmental providing a multi-year communications programme for Southend Borough Council.Assisting Cory to increase its recycling target throughout the borough, the programme will cover work on increasing recycling, promoting recycling services and street cleansing as well as promoting waste reduction and reuse.
There will be a strong focus on community outreach and engagement, building a champion network around Southend to promote recycling and other environmental messages.
While a variety of methods will be used to help boost the recycling rate, there will be an emphasis on face to face communications to ensure the highest understanding and participation. In two events recently held attendees felt this was the best way to motivate more people to recycle and increase understanding.
Plans during the first year include launching public place recycling service on the seafront and in shopping areas, a home composting programme and a schools recycling initiative to raise awareness amongst children.
We are planning a trip to the Bywaters Materials Recycling Facility (see http://www.bywaterswaste.co.uk/ for more information) on the 2nd June for residents to see first hand how their waste is recycled. Please contact me if this is something you might be interested in attending. Also, as mentioned, we’re still looking for potential Recycling Champions so if you or anyone you know might be interested it would be great to hear from you.
